A huge thank you to the 123 people who kindly donated to our Crowdfunder campaign, “Support young people seeking asylum in the UK”, and to everyone who supported us by sharing the page.
We’re very happy to announce that with your help, we met our £5,000 target! We are so grateful to everyone who was involved, including volunteers Max and Challoner who worked hard behind the scenes to make sure our page reached as many people as possible.
In this video, GMIAU social worker Maria explained why we were Crowdfunding.
As well as raising funds to support our work, we wanted to share the stories of the young people we support. So over the weeks of our Crowdfunder we told a story through our blog series, The Long Journey to Safety, which takes you through the journey a young person might undergo as they search for safety in the UK.
Check out the five installments: arriving in the UK; making friends and accessing education; the important role played by social workers; going through an age assessment; and, for the fifth part, an interview with GMIAU caseworker Isobel, who spoke to us about what it’s like to finally get an asylum decision.
We also heard from two young people supported by GMIAU, who told us in their own words what that journey was like and what it meant for GMIAU to stand by their side.
We were touched by the many messages and gestures of support from our friends in Greater Manchester and beyond. So from everyone at GMIAU – thank you!
If you missed out on donating to our Crowdfunder, you can always donate through our JustGiving page.
