We are pleased to announce the launch of our inaugural impact report, published earlier this year in November 2017.

Our report is intended to shine a light on some of the work that our dedicated team of staff and volunteers complete on a daily basis, as well as highlighting some of the stories of current and former clients to show the difficulties they face when attempting to build a new life in the UK.

The report looks at the statistics behind the case studies and highlights the many complex reasons people claim asylum, whilst reflecting on trends that have materialised in the last 12 months, notably the increase of children and young people needing legal advice and representation. The report also seeks to provide a legal context for each point raised, and explores the future of immigration advice in the face of cuts to legal aid in the last few years.

Crucially, the report looks at the wider impact that GMIAU has to our clients, the wider community, and the additional support it provides through Asylum Support Housing Advice (ASHA) and the Refugee Family Reunion project.
