Trusts & Foundations

Our free, independent advice changes lives.

To remain a strong and sustainable organisation we need support from Trusts and Foundations. Your support and donations will help us transform lives and fight for change.

GMIAU has been working with people subject to immigration control for over 35 years. As a voluntary organisation we provide free legal advice, representation, and support services to people across the North West.

  • Our Legal Team provides expert immigration and public law advice to people across the North West, guiding them through some of the most complex and life-changing legal processes, and playing a crucial role in preventing homelessness and destitution.

  • Our Destitution Team supports people who are forced into homelessness and destitution by their immigration status, supporting people who are in crisis: when someone is rough sleeping; facing eviction; fleeing abuse; or a child has been wrongly age assessed and placed in inappropriate accommodation. Several team members are qualified immigration advisers, allowing them to address both immediate emergencies and the underlying immigration issues.

  • Our Policy and Campaigns Team amplify the voices of people with lived experience of immigration injustice and engage with politicians and government officials. They carry out evidence based research and work with the media to show the impact of the hostile policies and laws directed at the people we support.

We are commissioned by the Legal Aid Agency, and we work with local authorities including Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). Much of our work is funded by multiple grant funding trusts, and our work would not be possible without their generous support.

We look forward to building relationships and working with others who share our vision and are committed to challenging racism and immigration control, whilst also supporting people who are most affected by the sharpest end of the immigration and asylum systems.

If you would like to discuss how we can work together, please contact our Chief Executive Neil Frackelton: neil@gmiau.org
