Get legal advice from GMIAU

As before, requests for advice or referrals to GMIAU must be made through our online referral forms. These now look slightly different, but function just the same as before. You can find them at the page Our Services. On this page, you will find direct links to our main Advice form, and to forms for children in care (immigration and asylum), for people experiencing domestic abuse, the KIND UK project, and the RESS project.

This is also where you can find out more information about our legal representation and advice services. Click “read more” on any of the sections, and it will take you to a dedicated page.

Find legal information

Sadly, we are not able to legally represent everyone who needs our help. As well as providing one-to-one advice and casework, we aim to provide as much quality legal information as possible so that people navigating the system themselves can do so fully informed, and guided by expert advice. In our new Legal Resources section you will find a number of information sheets. Some are primarily aimed at people navigating the system themselves, which are under Self-Help Resources, and some are aimed at professionals such as social workers, which are under Resources for Professionals. Within the resources, you can see the different sections before expanding or collapsing them, to make the detailed information easier to digest.

Campaigns

We are excited to share the brand-new Campaigns section of our website. As GMIAU we have always campaigned for a future which allows people to move and to belong, free from the harm of immigration controls. On this new page you will find the brilliant work of the lived experience groups we walk alongside and other campaigns we are working on. In our About Us section, you can read more about who we are, what we do, and our impact. Another brand-new page is Our History, going back to GMIAU’s formation in 1989 in the context of community-based anti-deportation campaigns and our city’s proud history of standing up for our neighbours. With materials from our archive, you can follow our story through the decades and find out how we got to where we are now.
